Case Study – Supporting Just Wont Die with their hire for a Video Editor
Based in Cambridge, UK, the Just Won’t Die team was founded by the multi-award-winning game studio behind Jagex, the UK’s largest independent games developer and publisher.
Collectively, their team has over 150 game credits including some of the best-selling franchises in video game history, multiple Hugo Award nominations and best-selling books, as well as numerous granted patents.
Requirement
Rosslyn David had previously partnered with the CCO for Just Wont Die in a sister company. Having been impressed by the successful work, they re-engaged Rosslyn David to help them with this new role, working with James again.
This Video Editor role was a brand-new requirement for Just Wont Die, and critical in their scale up growth mission.
Specifically, they were seeking someone with the niche industry knowledge who would understand the requirements of the Gaming sector and is able to translate the games features to content.
James worked closely with their CCO to build a thorough and intimate understanding of the role profile, how it fit in to the wider team, and what success looked like. This would allow him to run an effective market mapping exercise and also to brief and interview prospective candidates on the role.
Challenge
Just Wont Die were already in the middle of their recruitment campaign for the role at the point of engaging with Rosslyn David.
To this point they had run direct adverts campaigns and utilised their own networks, primarily running inbound recruitment campaigns and had exhausting the ‘active’ candidate market.
Having shortlisted candidates and held a round of interviews they had so far been unsuccessful in finding a candidate with the level of experience required.
Specifically, candidates with the previously mentioned depth of niche industry knowledge who had the technical ability to create the content needed.
Solution
James ran a thorough project mapping the candidate market specific to need, to target candidates that were already embedded in the Gaming industry and had the depth of technical experience required.
First building a directory of all Gaming companies located in the UK, then filtered to those within a commutable catchment area of the Cambridge offices.
From here he researched personnel at the respective companies to uncover those not just with campaign experience, but to ensure it was at the right level, within the industry and with the appropriate technical skills.
He then ran a targeted Headhunt/outreach campaign. This would include the C.80% of prospective candidates who are not ‘active’ jobseekers.
James held prequalification conversations/interviews with 11 prospective candidates before introducing a final shortlist of 3 candidates to the client.
From this shortlist, Just Wont Die progressed all 3 candidates to interview, followed up with a subsequent offer and placement.
Key metrics for the recruitment requirements
Candidates introduced – 3
Candidates interviewed – 3
Candidates progressed to final interview – 2
“I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such a dedicated and knowledgeable job placement professional. I would not hesitate to recommend James' services to anyone seeking top-tier assistance in their job search.”
