Case Study – Supporting Cambridge GaN Devices with their hire for a Product Marketing Manager

A spin-out of the Cambridge University, Cambridge GaN Devices (CGD) is a fabless semiconductor company that develops a range of energy-efficient GaN-based power devices to make greener electronics possible.

In the future, sustainable and efficient power devices will be an imperative driving force for businesses in the electronics industry.

CGD demonstrate technological advancement by developing green solutions for everyday electronics, respecting our planet’s natural resources, and creating a more sustainable future for the generations to come.

Requirement

Adam had previously partnered with CGDs Talent Acquisition Partner when they were at another Cambridge Tech business, Speechmatics.  A professional relationship that had followed from one business to another, testament to Adam’s prior work.

This Product Marketing Manager role was a brand-new requirement for CGD, and critical in the growth of their marketing function internally.

Specifically, they were seeking someone coming from the semiconductor space, ideally with knowledge of the use of gallium nitrate.

Adam worked closely with their Talent Acquisition Partner and VP of Business Development to build a thorough and intimate understanding of the role profile, how it fits in to the wider team, and what success looked like. This would allow him to run an effective market mapping exercise and also to brief and interview prospective candidates on the role.

Challenge

CGD were at the beginning of their recruitment campaign for the role at the point of engaging with Rosslyn David.

To this point they had written the job spec, and the Talent Partner contacted Adam, as he already knew Adam was adept in these sorts of niche searches.

Specifically, CDG needed someone who had experience not only in ‘new product development’ working alongside the wide product team, but also someone who had solid GTM experience within the sector.

Solution

Adam ran a thorough project mapping the candidate market specific to need, to target candidates that were already embedded in the semiconductor space.

First building a directory of all semiconductor companies located in the UK, then filtered to those within a commutable catchment area of CGD’s HQ in Cambridge.

From here he then cross referenced each business, with the key requirements of the role, to not only identify existing product marketers, but also to find wider marketers who have product experience.

He then ran a targeted Headhunt/outreach campaign. This would include the C.80% of prospective candidates who are not ‘active’ jobseekers.

Adam held prequalification conversations/interviews with 7 prospective candidates before introducing a final shortlist of 3 candidates to the client.

From this shortlist, CGD progressed all 3 candidates to interview, followed up with a subsequent offer and placement.

Adam is a great communicator, provides good advice and is committed to providing valuable service.

Adam helped me find a job I now love and made the whole process quick, smooth and without any stress. He was very quick to communicate all the updates to me and was a good listener/adviser when I needed to address any of my concerns.

I would highly recommend Adam both to hiring managers and to candidates alike.
